We are now half way through the 12 month pilot project of managing Rawtenstall market and what a six months it’s been! Our number of permanent stall holder numbers have increased by a third and our regular saturday markets now have a great selection of pop up makers and artisans joining us each weekend. Saturdays have been full. We listen to feedback and understand that rawtenstall customers like regular pop ups but not have the exact same traders each Saturday – people want choice, different products weekly, something new. We’d like to offer pop ups a chance to trade with us regularly, every other week or monthly.
We increased the number of market hall stalls further by removing the canopies to just two old stalls and creating another 6 more manageable sized stalls from the same space. We continue to use the original stalls and salvage/reclaim everything we can get our hands on. The new stalls are open, you can see right through the market now from north-west to south-east. The existing traders who had previously been blocked in and in a dark corner are absolutely amazed at the changes and love it!
Customers fully support the changes, we’ve had a phenomonal amount of emails and messages giving us encouragement and thanks for the work that’s been completed and acknowledging and appreciating the improved vibrant atmosphere at the market.
On the outside marketplace we have decided to use the cabins as shared space whereas before one trader had a large space. Now, we have room for four traders to share a cabin with ample room to sell from.
All of the stalls have now had a cosmetic makeover and are looking fresh, clean, welcoming, upgraded.
The market cafe has had a makeover too, it’s opening as The Thai Shack cafe bar Thursday – Sunday, including evenings.
Thursdays remain quiet market days so we’re introducing a vintage traders market in the market hall. We would like this to become a great place to buy and sell quality vintage, vintage industrial, retro, kitsch and antiques.
Events we’ve had or are planning include…
Fionas Market Music Time for preschool kids. This is a fun, free, session for parents and children to enjoy occassional Thursday mornings.
The Friday Night Social which we held inside the market hall for the first time was a fantastic atmosphere and vibe. Festoon lighting, superb food, great music as per usual from La Familia Musica plus we held a mini night market which was so popular we’re going to increase the stalls open at the next one in December.
The Clog Market joins us every third Saturday of the month with music, food, drink, makers, bakers & creators.
